Gaupol

Gaupol is an editor for text-based subtitles, published by Osmo Salomaa for Linux. It works on the kind of subtitle file that stores a sequence of entries, each pairing a span of time with one or more lines of text, and gives that structure a desktop interface in which entries can be read, corrected and rearranged. Typical work involves fixing wording, adjusting where a line starts and stops, and keeping the sequence consistent from beginning to end.

Because the scope is text-based subtitle formats, the program deals with timing and text rather than with the video stream itself; bitmap or image-based subtitle tracks fall outside that description. Packaging is listed for Linux only, so translators and editors on other operating systems will need an alternative.

The project is released under GPL-3.0-or-later, which permits inspection of the source, local modification, and redistribution under the same terms.
