Gaupol is an editor for text-based subtitles, published by Osmo Salomaa for Linux. It works on the kind of subtitle file that stores a sequence of entries, each pairing a span of time with one or more lines of text, and gives that structure a desktop interface in which entries can be read, corrected and rearranged. Typical work involves fixing wording, adjusting where a line starts and stops, and keeping the sequence consistent from beginning to end.
Because the scope is text-based subtitle formats, the program deals with timing and text rather than with the video stream itself; bitmap or image-based subtitle tracks fall outside that description.
