About FreeSoft Hub

Each entry is a short, human-written description of one program: what it is for, which platforms it runs on, which licence it is published under, and where its official distribution lives.

• Download links point to the publisher’s own domain, an official app store, or a package manager the publisher recognises.
• Where a package manager publishes a checksum in its manifest, we reproduce that checksum together with the source it came from and the date we compared it. That is a statement about two strings matching on a given day — nothing more.
• Nothing is downloaded through us. Following a download link takes you off this site.

Catalogue metadata — identifiers, platforms, licences, upstream URLs — is imported from public sources, currently the Flathub AppStream index. The import runs as a script we start by hand and its output is committed to our git repository, so every change to the catalogue has an author, a date and a diff.

Descriptions are written by us. Where a draft was produced with the help of a language model, a person reads and edits the entire text before publication. A page whose translation has not been read by a person is excluded from search engines and from our language-alternate links until it has.

A software directory is only useful if its numbers mean something. Several categories of information that similar sites display are missing here on purpose, because we have no honest way to produce them:

• Star ratings and review counts — we have no reviewers.
• Aggregate download totals. Install figures from one package manager describe that package manager alone; presenting them as a worldwide total would be wrong by orders of magnitude. Where we do show such a figure, it carries its source, its scope and its date.
• Badges asserting anything about the condition of a file. We do not scan binaries and nobody here has examined the file you are about to download.
• Alternative download mirrors. We host nothing, so we have nothing to mirror.

Program names, logos and screenshots are the property of their respective owners. Their appearance in this catalogue does not imply affiliation with, sponsorship by, or endorsement from those owners.
