About this application
Krita is aimed at digital painting, concept art, comics and texture work. Its centre of gravity is the brush system: several distinct brush engines, each with its own parameters, combined with a brush stabiliser, mirrored painting and a pop-up palette that keeps the tool switching close to the cursor.
The rest of the application follows from that. Layers include paint, vector, filter and clone types, with masks and layer groups. Colour management uses OCIO and ICC profiles, and painting can happen in higher bit depths when the artwork is headed for print or compositing. Comic artists get panel and text tools; animators get a frame based timeline with onion skinning for short 2D sequences.
Development happens inside the KDE community and is funded by the Krita Foundation. Builds are published for Windows, macOS and Linux, and there is a tablet oriented Android version.
