Create and edit your own movies
Pitivi is a video editor built around GStreamer Editing Services, the library that performs the actual cutting and rendering. Footage is dropped into a media library and arranged on a timeline of video and audio layers, where clips are trimmed, split, grouped and snapped against one another.
Effects come from the GStreamer and frei0r plug-in sets and their parameters can be keyframed over time, as can clip opacity and volume. Titles are added as clips of their own, transitions are created by overlapping two clips, and audio waveforms are drawn on the timeline so cuts can be placed against the sound. For high-resolution or slow-to-decode footage, Pitivi generates proxy files and edits those instead, leaving the originals untouched.
Because both import and export go through GStreamer, the formats available depend on which plug-in packages are installed. Pitivi is a GTK application developed for Linux desktops, and its scope stays close to ordinary editing rather than colour grading or compositing work.
