gPodder

gPodder is a media aggregator and podcast client maintained by The gPodder Team and released under the GPL-3.0-or-later license. It follows the subscription model: the user supplies feed addresses, the application polls those feeds for new entries, and episodes can be fetched to disk instead of being streamed on each playback. Downloaded files stay in the local filesystem, so an existing collection remains usable when the machine has no network connection.

As an aggregator, its work is the bookkeeping around a feed list — which episodes are new, which have been retrieved, which have already been played — rather than acting as a catalogue or a hosting service. The material itself comes from whatever feeds the user decides to add, so the program imposes no editorial selection of its own.

This record covers the Linux build only; anyone on another operating system should consult the project's own distribution channels. Playback and file handling depend on the media components available on the host system, which means behaviour can differ between distributions.
