Audio Source

Audio Source turns an Android phone or tablet into a USB microphone for a connected computer. Instead of streaming over a network, it uses the USB cable already carrying power, so the phone's built-in microphone becomes an input device the host machine can record from. The typical use is picking up a handset that is lying around and pointing it at a sound source rather than buying a separate capture device.

The application is published by gdzx under the MIT license. It runs on Android only; the computer at the other end of the cable is what consumes the audio, so the setup involves both the app on the device and whatever recording or conferencing software is running on the host. Because the connection is wired, the phone needs to stay tethered for the duration of a session, which also keeps it charged while in use.
