Record and edit audio files
Tenacity is a multitrack audio editor and recorder, continued by a group of community contributors from the Audacity codebase. It keeps the same working model: audio is recorded or imported onto tracks laid out along a horizontal timeline, then edited by selecting a span of a waveform and cutting, copying, pasting, silencing or applying a process to it.
The bundled processing covers trimming and joining, fades, amplification and normalisation, noise reduction from a captured noise profile, equalisation, compression, pitch and tempo change and click removal, with waveform and spectrogram views for finding problems by eye. Further processing loads as LADSPA, LV2 and VST plugins, and the Nyquist scripting language is available for writing custom effects. Recording captures from the system input devices, with multi-channel capture where the device and driver allow it.
Operations are written into the track data rather than kept as a live chain, though a full undo history is maintained within a session. The project is volunteer-run and has no corporate owner.
