Screen recording and live streaming with a scene and source compositor
OBS Studio composes a video signal from sources — a window, a whole display, a camera, a browser page, an image, a text field — arranges them into scenes, and then either records the result to disk or sends it to a streaming service.
The scene model is what makes it useful beyond simple screen capture. Switching between a full screen slide and a small camera inset is one click, transitions can be assigned between scenes, and an audio mixer per source handles microphone, desktop audio and their filters separately. Recording can run at the same time as a stream, and the replay buffer keeps the last few minutes in memory so a moment can be saved after it happened.
Streaming targets are configured by server URL and stream key, so any service that accepts RTMP or SRT works. Builds are published for Windows, macOS and Linux.
