Gobby

Gobby is a text editor for collaborative work on plain files: several people take part in editing the same document, so the tool addresses shared drafting and joint code or note editing rather than solitary writing. It is aimed at text files, not at formatted documents or page layout, which keeps it in the same category as an ordinary programmer's or writer's editor with the addition of multiple participants.

Because collaboration is the central function, the practical questions for a prospective user concern how a session is started and joined, how many participants a document can carry, and what happens when connectivity drops. The record here does not answer those; they belong in the project's own documentation.

The software comes from Armin Burgmeier under the ISC licence, a short permissive licence that allows reuse and redistribution with attribution and without a copyleft obligation. Linux is the only platform listed in this entry, so it should be treated as a Linux tool unless the project states otherwise.
