About this application
Asunder is a desktop program that reads audio tracks from a compact disc in the machine's optical drive and writes them out as files. The main window lists the tracks on the disc with checkboxes, so a rip can cover the whole album or just a few songs. Album, artist, genre and per-track title fields sit in the same window and can be filled from an online disc database lookup or typed in by hand when the lookup returns nothing useful or gets the details wrong.
Encoding is not built into the program itself. Asunder passes the extracted audio to separate encoder programs on the system, which means the list of output formats it can produce depends on what is installed alongside it. Output paths are generated from a configurable naming pattern built out of the metadata fields, so files land in per-artist and per-album folders without manual renaming afterwards. Progress for extraction and encoding is shown per track while the job runs.
The program is a GTK application distributed for Linux, and it needs a working optical drive to do anything; there are no builds for other desktop platforms in this listing.
