Digital Audio Workstation
Ardour is a digital audio workstation for recording, editing and mixing. A session holds any number of audio and MIDI tracks routed into buses and a master output, with the routing exposed rather than hidden: connections between tracks, buses, plugins and hardware ports can be rewired directly, including through JACK when other applications need to sit in the signal path.
Recording supports multiple simultaneous inputs, punch and loop recording, and takes stacked as playlists so alternatives stay available. Editing works on regions with ripple and slip modes, crossfades, time stretching and pitch shifting. Every mixer control and plugin parameter can be automated along the timeline. Plugins load in LV2, VST2, VST3, LADSPA and, on macOS, Audio Unit formats, and the MIDI side includes a piano roll editor and control surface support.
For post-production a video track can run alongside the audio with timecode synchronisation. Ardour runs on Linux, macOS and Windows.
