About this application

AlwaysOn adds an always-on display to Android devices that do not include one, keeping information visible on the screen while the phone is otherwise idle. It fills the gap on handsets whose manufacturers omit the feature, so the device can be left on a desk or charger and read at a glance rather than being woken each time.

The application carries no advertising and no charge, and its source is available under the GPL-3.0-only license, which requires derivative works to be distributed under the same terms. It is an Android-only project, and how well it behaves in practice depends on the device: screen technology, Android version, and vendor power-management rules all influence how the display is kept active and what that costs in battery. Users on devices with a native always-on display may find the built-in implementation sufficient; AlwaysOn is aimed at those without one.
