Points clés
- Computes sailing routes from forecast conditions rather than shortest distance.
- Displays routes and waypoints in a map-based navigation view.
- Targets sailing vessels, whose speed depends on the wind angle.
- Runs on Linux; no macOS or Windows build is listed.
- Copyleft licensing under GPL-3.0-or-later extends to modified versions.
À propos de cette application
GWeatherRouting is a sailing routing and navigation application for Linux, published by Davide Gessa under GPL-3.0-or-later. Weather routing is the problem of choosing a track between two points from forecast conditions and a vessel's sailing characteristics rather than from distance alone, since a sailing boat's speed changes with the angle between its course and the wind. The navigation side of the program covers the display of that work: a map view with waypoints and route legs.
In practice this means a desktop program that combines a chart-style view, route and waypoint handling, and a routing computation whose result is a proposed track laid out over time. Output quality is bounded by the inputs, namely the forecast data and the figures describing how the boat performs, so the specific data sources and file formats the program accepts are worth confirming in the project's own documentation before planning a passage around it.
Platform support is listed for Linux only. The GPL-3.0-or-later license is copyleft, so modified versions distributed to others carry the same terms.
