Inkscape

Inkscape is a vector graphics editor whose working format is SVG rather than a proprietary container. What you draw is what ends up in the file, which makes it a practical tool for web illustration, icons, diagrams and print work that has to be edited later by someone else.

The toolset covers Bézier and freehand drawing, node editing, boolean path operations, path offsetting, gradients and patterns, text on a path, and clones that stay linked to their original. The XML editor is exposed directly, so an attribute can be corrected by hand when the visual tools are the long way round. Extensions written in Python add generators, format converters and layout helpers.

Files can be exported to PNG, PDF, EPS and other formats, and Inkscape reads and writes plain SVG for use in browsers and other applications. Builds are available for Windows, macOS and Linux.
