Flowblade is a non-linear video editor for Linux. Clips are laid out on a multitrack timeline with separate video and audio tracks, and the timeline offers several edit modes: an insert edit pushes the later clips along, while an overwrite edit replaces whatever sits underneath. Trimming has modes of its own for adjusting a single cut or rolling two neighbouring clips against each other.
Playback and rendering run on the MLT framework, which brings a set of image and audio filters, compositors for layering clips, and keyframes so filter parameters change over time. Titles are made in a built-in editor, audio levels are set per clip or on a mixer, and proxy editing swaps heavy source footage for lightweight stand-ins while you work, reconnecting the originals at render time.
Flowblade is written in Python with a GTK interface and is packaged only for Linux. Rendering goes through FFmpeg presets, so the codecs on offer follow the FFmpeg build present on the system.
