2D Computer Aided Design (CAD)

LibreCAD is a drafting program for two-dimensional drawings: floor plans, elevations, schematics and mechanical parts drawn to scale. There is no 3D modelling in it. Everything happens on a flat sheet, which keeps the interface close to traditional drafting and to older CAD packages.
Drawings are organised in layers, each with its own colour, line type and width, while repeated content lives in blocks that can be inserted many times and edited in one place. Object snapping catches endpoints, midpoints, centres, intersections and grid points as you draw. Dimensions, hatching and text are available, along with the usual constructive operations: offset, trim, extend, chamfer, fillet, mirror and array. Commands and exact coordinates can be typed on a command line instead of picked with the mouse, which is often faster for precise work.
DXF is the working format, so drawings move between LibreCAD and other CAD applications, and finished sheets are printed to scale or written out as PDF or SVG. The program grew out of the community edition of QCad and is built on Qt.
