Geopard

Geopard is a desktop client for Gemini, a network protocol that serves documents written in a plain markup format known as gemtext. It retrieves pages over that protocol and presents them as readable text, so reading works the way it does in any browser: enter an address, read the page, follow a link to the next one. Sites reachable this way are usually personal writing, mailing-list style discussion, aggregated feeds and text archives rather than interactive applications.

Because Gemini leaves out scripting, embedded media and stylesheets by design, the scope of the program is narrower than that of a web browser. There is no rendering engine to tune, no plugin system, and no handling of HTML or JavaScript; content arrives as headings, paragraphs, quotes, preformatted blocks and one link per line.

The program is published by Lorenzo Miglietta under GPL-3.0-or-later. It is listed for Linux desktops only, so readers on Windows, macOS or mobile systems will need a different client for the same protocol.
