Alligator Bytes is an Android application for recording short musical loops and playing them back. The workflow centres on capturing a passage of sound, letting it repeat, and then shaping the result while it plays, so the instrument is the phone or tablet itself rather than an external controller or a desktop editor.
The distinguishing element is movement: physical motion of the device becomes an input that alters the sound of the loop during playback, instead of the change being made through knobs or a mouse. This puts the application closer to a hand-held performance tool than to a multi-track recorder, and it suits sketching ideas or improvising over a repeating figure.
Availability is limited to Android; the directory lists no desktop or iOS build. The project is published by Thomas Mayer under the MIT licence, so the source may be reused, modified, and redistributed with attribution.
